Born in, Washington, DC (The Nations Capital) and raised in Takoma Park, Md., J.R.  began writing poetry at the tender age of 7. By the time he was 10 J.R. had began to take his poetry into a new creative direction at the behest of the artistry of the then (Now Late) Rapper Tupac Shakur. However, it was his earlier influences from the music of Earth, Wind and Fire; Bob Marley; Whitney Houston; and Michael Jackson that shaped the base of his Rhythm and Blues, R&B, approach to turning his poetry into music.

Being of White, Native American, and Ecuadorian decent JR has a sound all his own that blends blues, hip-hop, and soul. He intends to use his music to make a difference in the lives of others.

MUSIC FOR A CAUSE

Bullying was a cause close to  J.R.'s heart, he had a friend that endured the antics of bullies in high school. The bullies would rob her, attack her after school. J.R. watched as his friend's self esteem took a major turn so much so that she wanted out. Out of the county in which she lived, and eventually out of her life. Seeing the pain it caused his friend J.R. couldn't take away the pain but he sure could use his voice to combat and confront the bullies. Bringing the much needed attention in places he couldn't physically go to help all victims, and eventually put a stop to it. After the release of his single, Can't back down, J.R. realized what an impact the song had when he started to receive fan mail thanking him for the song. Particularly J.R. received a letter from a girl in Colorado, who was surfing the web looking for help with bullying. She came across the movie, Bullying Avengers, and the theme song, Can't Back Down. She went on to say that hearing it gave her the courage. It was at that moment that J.R. realized the importance of his message
