Madonna's Son Rocco, 13, Holds Liquor Bottle in Controversial Instagram
Are Madonna and child in trouble deep? Not exactly, but the pop legend, 55, incited fresh scandal over the weekend via Instagram as she continued to document her extended holiday skiing trip with her four kids in Gstaad, Switzerland. In a talked-about snapshot from Saturday, Jan. 4,Rocco, Madonna's 13-year-old son with ex Guy Ritchie, proudly brandishes a bottle of Tanqueray gin. Wearing a bandana and denim shirt, Rocco is flanked by two similarly youthful-looking pals who hold up bottles of Belvedere Vodka for good measure.
"The party has just begun! Bring it! 2014!" Madonna captioned the photo. Some followers weren't amused by the celebratory pic, arguing that it -- and Madonna -- condoned way-underage drinking.
"Booz [sic] is not something to make jokes about. Period!" one fan complained. "Madonna still doing anything for attention. ...good or bad. What a shame," sniffed another naysayer.
As outrage grew, others quickly rose to the Material Girl's defense. "Guys - calm the f#ck down!!! They are just holding the bottles...I took a pic of my then 2 year old niece with a wine bottle in her hands..posted it on facebook...everybody found it funny & NO ONE reacted like some of you guys did!!!"
"Let Madonna do as she pleases with her children you be concerned about yours. Raise your kids not hers she is not your kids mother!" said another defender.
The "Addicted" singer herself caught wind of the scandal and fought back. "No one was drinking we were just having fun! Calm down and get a sense of humor!" she wrote in a subsequent Instagram caption. "Don't start the year off with judgement!"
As attested by cozy, snowy Instagram shots over the past week, the superstar has otherwise been having a phenomenal time in Gstaad with Rocco and his three siblings: sisters Lourdes, 17 and Mercy, 8, and brother. David, also 8. "Life Is Beautiful! #happiness," Madonna wrote in a Dec. 29 shot, capturing a stunning mountainscape view.
