Source: Chris Brown fight not over Rihanna

• Source tells HLN that the fight was not over pop singer Rihanna

A source tells HLN that a fight at a New York City night club involving Chris Brown, his entourage and another group of clubgoers was not about Brown’s ex-girlfriend Rihanna.

Brown’s rep tells HLN that he, his girlfriend Karrueche Tran, and his security team were enjoying themselves at W.i.P nightclub when they were attacked by another party. Brown tweeted a photo of a gash on his chin he claims he suffered during the altercation. Brown’s rep says that his group was confronted by the other party, and when they tried to leave, they were assaulted and tried to protect themselves.

The other party allegedly included Drake and his security team, but Drake’s rep is denying his involvement, telling HLN, “Drake did not participate in any wrongdoing of any kind last night at W.i.P. He was on his way out of the club when the altercation began. He did not engage in any activity which resulted in injury to person or damage to property.”

The New York Police Department confirms they were called to the scene at 4:08 a.m. on Thursday. Although no arrests have been made, the NYPD says there is an ongoing investigation. Brown’s rep also confirms that he and the other victims in his party have been interviewed by the NYPD.

While a source says Rihanna was not the reason this clash took place, the pop sensation has been close to both R&B stars in the past.
