Tavis Smiley and Jimmy "JJ" Walker on why are there no black TV shows in hollywood.
B-13 Peer Review Presents: The inside story...
Watch Comedian-actor Jimmie Walker on PBS. See more from Tavis Smiley.
Walker discusses his career and behind-the-scenes happenings during his stint on Good Times and shares what it’s like to be known for the popular catchphrase—and the title of his memoir—Dy-no-mite.
Jimmie Walker went from the streets of New York's Bronx neighborhood to having people like David Letterman and Jay Leno write jokes for him, recording a #1 comedy album and opening for bands in 50,000 seat stadiums. Although he's worked as the main attraction in all of the top comedy clubs, he's best known for his controversial role on the landmark sitcom, Good Times, and his "Dyn-o-mite!" catchphrase, which became popular in the American vernacular. Walker continues to enjoy a comedy career, now approaching five decades, and writes TV and film scripts. He's also penned a memoir, entitled (what else?) Dyn-o-mite!
