Fans aren't the only ones looking forward to season 2 of "Empire." Taraji P. Henson, who plays Cookie Lyon, has a very big guest star wish for the show's sophomore season. The star spoke with Us Weekly following her historic win at Sunday's Critics' Choice Television Awards , to discuss two particular actors she'd like to see on set. “My wish would be for Diana Ross and Billy Dee Williams to play my parents,” she said. “I have no idea [who it will be]. I [also] want Oprah too. I want the world!” she added, laughing. “I want everyone on the show. Bill, Hillary [Clinton] -- come on! Everybody!” If Henson’s wish is granted, the series will mark Williams and Ross’ first on-screen appearance together since starring opposite of each other in “Lady Sings the Blues" and “Mahogany." So far, the hit Fox series has confirmed Alicia Keys, Lenny Kravitz, Chris Rock, Ne-Yo and former “CSI: Miami” actor Adam Rodriquez as guests expected appear on t

AKON BRINGS ELECTRICITY TO SIX HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE IN AFRICA

Image
Jay Z may be streaming music, but Akon is streaming LIGHT! Music star Akon is already famous for lighting up the stage. And that’s clearly not enough for the Senegalese-American singer. He now is poised to light up the continent of Africa. Akon has launched a powerful new initiative called “Akon Lighting Africa.” The initiative aims to bring electricity to 600 million people in Africa. The initiative will accomplish this through his Solar Academy. Solar Academy supports African engineers and green energy entrepreneurs, cultivating resources needed to produce sustainable solar power enterprises that work. The academy will facilitate experts who will bring training and equipment instruction to ambitious African engineers. There is nothing more abundant on the continent of Africa than “sun”. This could be a big problem solver. Rural Africa has been catching on to the new technology and is in need of it more than anyone. Akon’s Solar Academy looks to harness that power through micr

"DOPE" Soundtrack Features Nas, Digital Underground, A Tribe Called Quest & More

Image
Check out the soundtrack for the upcoming movie "DOPE." This summer we'll see A$AP Rocky make his acting debut in the film "DOPE," executive produced by Pharrell . Although Rocky's name has been used heavily in the promotion of the film, he said during his CRWN interview that his role is actually pretty small. Other cast memebers of the '90s centric film include Shameik Moore, Zoe Kravitz, Tyga , Vince Staples , Forest Whitaker, Chanel Iman and more. The movie hits theatres on June 19th and the soundtrack is out a few days prior, on June 16th. Given the fact that the film is set in the '90s, you'll find plenty of '90s hip-hop gems on the soundtrack, mixed in with a few new names like Buddy (Pharrell's artist) and LOLAWOLF (Zoe Kravitz's band). Pharrell also makes contributions under the movie's band name Awreeoh (four new songs). Check out the full tracklist below, and the trailer if you missed it. 1. Digable Pla

Apple Plans Streaming Service Launch, Kanye West Rumored To Be Involved

Image
Kanye West could be releasing new music through Apple next week Apple's worldwide developers conference is happening next week, and the rumor mill is going into overdrive. It's expected that the brand will be launching their highly anticipated streaming services, which has been anticipated since the failed Beats Music service was acquired last year. We've heard that Drake and Pharrell will be involved in some way or another (likely as iTunes Radio DJs), but new reports  are claiming that Kanye West will also play a role, and its possible his new album, SWISH , could be unveiled through the platform. As we saw with the botched U2 premiere last year, this wouldn't be the first time Apple partnered with an artist in this way. We know that Yeezy has always held Apple in high regard, so it wouldn't be a surprise that he'd jump at the opportunity to work with them, but his ties to Tidal do present a conflict of interest. Tune in June 8th to see jus

Lil Wayne Is Now A Co-Owner Of TIDAL

Image
Lil Wayne not only dropped a TIDAL exclusive today, he's also the company's newest co-owner. Patrick Lyons @P_Lyons_ Posted  Jun 3, 2015 at 03:43pm Before today, we hadn't received any signs that Lil Wayne was involved with TIDAL in any way, but now it's more apparent than ever that he's putting some stake in the company. Earlier today, he dropped "Glory," purportedly the first single from his  Free Weezy Album , as an exclusive on the streaming service, and now we've received reports that he's the company's latest co-owner. Consequence of Sound  reports that he's "joining the streaming service as an artist owner," and cites a press release from TIDAL employee Vania Schlogel, who writes: “We’re honored for Lil Wayne to join TIDAL. His eagerness to release an exclusive TIDAL track and schedule a TIDAL X performance is just another example of how passionately artists care about getting their music to fans.”
