NBC is Resurrecting 'Heroes' as a Miniseries Event

After three years in the grave, Heroes is flying back to NBC. The sci-fi drama series will return in 2015 as an "event miniseries," according to the people behind the peacock.

Tim Kring, the shows original creator and executive producer, will helm the comeback, which was announced during the final moments of the Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia.
There's even a teaser trailer already floating around Youtube.

NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke announced that the network has ordered 13 episodes for a new stand-alone story arc entitled Heroes Reborn, with all details of storylines and characters being kept under wraps.

In addition to the new series, and in an effort to capitalize on social media awareness, NBC will also launch a digital series prior to the Reborn premiere that will introduce the characters and new storylines.

“The enormous impact Heroes had on the television landscape when it first launched in 2006 was eye-opening,” said Salke. “Shows with that kind of resonance don’t come around often and we thought it was time for another installment. We’re thrilled that visionary creator Tim Kring was as excited about jumping back into this show as we were and we look forward to all the new textures and layers Tim plans to add to his original concept. Until we get closer to air in 2015, the show will be appropriately shrouded in secrecy, but we won’t rule out the possibility of some of the show’s original cast members popping back in.”

For NBC's sake, here's to hoping that Zachary Quinto and / or Hayden Panettiere will find time for a return trip to their heroic roots.
