Matthew McConaughey Civil War Movie “Free State of Jones” Casting Call in LA
Civil War film, “Free State Of Jones” is filming in areas of Louisiana
and has a casting call out for background actors
Matthew McConaughey is set to star in the production that will be directed by “The Hunger Games” director Gary Ross. The film will be shooting in the New Orleans and Lafayette areas as well as other areas of LA. The movie’s extras casting directors at Caballero are seeking background extras that are willing to grow their hair out for the production and are local to the area or within a reasonable driving distance.
McConaughey will play Newton Knight, a Civil War Confederate deserter who along with a group of fellow deserters begin an uprising against the Confederate army that they were a part of. Gugu Mbatha-Raw is set to star in the film opposite McConaughey. Knight and his group of rebels disagreed with the crippling taxation and other laws that favored the rich plantation owners in the south. Newt Knight and his group of deserters and poor white farmers caused Jones County, Mississippi to secede from the Confederacy, creating a safe haven known as the “Free State of Jones“. Knight’s fight continued after the war was over as did his defiance. He married a former slave, Rachel Knight, and established the area as the first mixed race community.
According to a report on Deadline, the STX Entertainment is behind the project which has a budget of $65 million for the production. “The Free State of Jones” began filming this month and will continue filming through May of 2015. According to the film’s IMDB page, “Free State of Jones” will be released in theaters March 11th in 2016.
Caballero Casting in LA is handling extras for “Free State of Jones”. They are now accepting submissions for Background Actors in Louisiana.
