Extras Casting Call for Netflix “The Get Down” in NYC
Baz Luhrman’s new Netflix series, “The Get Down” is now filming in the New York City area.
A new Netflix project about the beginnings of the hip hop music scene is now in production in New York City. The show is looking to cast African American and Hispanic background actors to play people at a 1970s flea market. GWC in New York City is looking for adults of all ages, 19 to 99 for the scene which will be a multi-day shoot, possibly beginning on Friday.
Great Gatsby director, Baz Luhrman is heading up the new Netflix project. The Get Down is described as a musical drama and is being produced by Sony Pictures Television. The series will be available on Netflix sometime next year in 2016.
Focusing on the early days of hip hop and punk rock music, “The Get Down” is described as “a mythic saga of how New York at the brink of bankruptcy gave birth to hip-hop, punk and disco.”
The show is set in 1970s New York City, a time when New York City was cash strapped, plagued with street violence and urban decay. Luhrman has spend the last decade developing the project and it will be Baz Luhrmann’s first TV show. “The Get Down“ stars Will Smith’s son, Jadeen Smith.
Luhrman is best known for his films “Moulin Rouge,” and “The Great Gatsby”.
